APU for converting video or other files

is there huge improvement for APU to convert video or other files?

    not really...

if you would use pure CPU encoding,
an phenom 2 x4 would probably be much faster

if the use GPU accerated transcoding,
a handful of discrete graphics card does the job better

apu doesn't offer anything miraculous like quick sync from intel,
not now at least

omg, didn't know that, thanks for telling but how about Bulldozer?

if you wanna convert videos, APU should not be yr choice

no one knows for certain,
but given that bulldozers could be 8-core processors,
and that pure CPU encoding benefit from more physical cores,
it should be at least as fast as 6-core Phenom IIs...

but still slower than GPU accelerated transcoding using fast graphics cards or QuickSync...

CPU transcoding delivers better quality products though

等緊
8 core 做 VM 同 pure trans-code (non-gpu assist)  應該同 i7  quad 可以一併

i feel very curious why CPU delivers better video quality, logically GPU processes video more masterfully

is it due to coding problems?

    I'm a bit curious too,
maybe it's the nature of pure floating point calculations in GPUs,
where CPUs can use integers too

that's just a wild guess
