亞馬遜賣嘅二手硬碟,第三方賣家貨源都未必係來自數據中心。
今年初有德國電腦新聞報導,曾經用作挖Chia幣,可以容易清零嘅Seagate硬碟,被當作全新硬碟咁賣:

Recently, many online retailers have sent out Seagate hard disks as new that have already been running somewhere for many, many hours. As yet unknown fraudsters had reset the SMART values of used drives and smuggled them back into distribution via equally unknown channels. Official Seagate dealers are also affected...
...When asked, Seagate stated that his hard disk was originally sold to a Chinese company from Mongolia.

...we have received further emails from affected readers – not only from Germany, but also from neighboring countries. The list of affected retailers has been extended to include BAB Distribution, ctn-systeme and some Amazon and eBay retailers, Digitec-Galaxus from Switzerland, DiTech from Austria and the Luxembourg branch of Alternate are also mentioned. Even large system houses such as Bechtle and Wortmann are said to be affected.

Hundreds of readers contacted us at the beginning of the year to alert us to a scam that had been perpetrated on them: They had paid for new hard disks but received used drives. Most of the victims were from German-speaking countries, but we also received reports from far-away countries such as Australia and the USA.
According to our research, the used drives probably came from China and were used there as storage for the cryptocurrency Chia...
...members of the Seagate security team from Singapore and Malaysia, together with officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade, unearthed a first counterfeiting workshop in a cramped storage room outside Kuala Lumpur back in May. According to the company, this counterfeiting workshop was taking in thousands of US dollars every month.
During the raid, almost 700 Seagate internal hard disks of various models and with a capacity of up to 18 TByte were confiscated. The investigators also found drives from Western Digital and Toshiba.
The fraudsters sold the counterfeit drives online via Shopee and Lazada, two of the largest e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia...Based on the evidence found, Seagate suspects that the drives originate from China, which corroborates our research. |
