I think is driver problem.

Rumor is that Turbo boost is a new thing, so 3D Mark not designed for this kind of card, not fully optimized yet.

Also the lower mark is also based on phyX off, if turn it ON, 680 may indeed faster than 7970 in 3D Mark.

Anyway, I am indifference on this. If NV's Turbo boost idea is true, whether you are a supporter of it or not, as a end user we should be happy and support its innovation. Same idea apply to ATI's "zero core" thing.

no sure about that, not never used 3D Mark 11 as my 570 will only get very low mark so not even want to try.
But since you suggested, I am sure phyX will have no impact then.

I mainly use 3D Mark vantage where with phyX will give you 2000 point more.

My main point is at the end K104's turbo boost is new thing, I am quite sure 3D Mark is not designed to cater that.

Turbo boost from CPU experience is consider to be very save and efficient (well at least Intel doing it nicely), I would say it is better than non stop running at O/C speed.

Auto o/c is quite good for lazy guys.
