macro lens (MP-E 65mm at 1x to 2x), flashes (I use Canon MT-24EX) with gel.
I used ladder to climb a few steps so I was close to my roof. As part of the ice on roof are melted, it ran down but it got frozen in the process. Trap air in between.

See those ice hanging on top...

    color gel your flash. I shot at late afternoon around 4pm. The ISO and shutter speed etc can knock the background black and flash gives the color.

I  think I use Rosco sample pack. They are enough to cover the flash head (except the 580EX, may has a hole that need to cover a bit with black tape)

You can get gel cheap in HK. but they are not mean for photo, like down to the color specific...
LEE also make gel... Try to get a 'swatchbook' from a dealer...
