But I disagree, the iPad(driving a Grado SR80i directly, playing AIFF ripped by itunes) sounds really nice, not harsh or bright, quite dynamic, sweet vocal, though a bit bass shy.

I admit its driving power is limited, I have to push the volume to almost 100%(about 80-90% in most cases), the AKG701 sounds weak on iPad even at 100%.  

Any comments?  is that true the other ipods are much better? in what ways?

I am planning to get another HP for the IPAD, like it very much

Do you use earplugs or headphone?  

will u use EQ when play music?  I find the IPAD with EQ at OFF position sounds best.
