you need to go to country side and there is no cloud on the sky...
if you want to shoot in the city, you have to expose less time and shoot continuously and then ps the stack...

yeah... if you look closely there is actually a plane left a trail of its own.

But this is fun... at 45F weather...

star rotates against the North pole star a full circle every 24 hours.

From what I read, usually 2 main approach....

#1. (like me) find the North star (actually my 2nd night try... I just find North and point to sky... it happen to be around the North star...lucky...) and point to it... You may want to position the star other than the center of frame. Usually in this approach you try to have a longer exp

#2 (like initials) point East or West... the lines will be more straight and shorter exp gives "longer" trail.

There are more ticks into it too.
#1. black card in between (as initials does, there is one "broken" in the lines) or at end to make it look like "  !  "
#2. black card then small focus change. It may give enlarge trail effort.

---------Tools------------
tripod, shutter cord, camera with "BULB" mode, fully charge battery, compass if you need to local the north. May be a flash light (or color paper/gel to cover the light) if you want to "paint" the near object (tree, building etc), Mirror lock up (but I didn't do...)

what I need now is a warmer night and a darker sky..  Look forward to play more

Another approach is take hundreds of same pictures in 30s and minutes apart.. Then PS them to one...
(I didn't have PS, so its out of question)
