其實係咪可以問 Broad 少少 - AS/400 會否被 Migrate 去 Unix platforms?

我會話最緊要都係睇 $$$$

舊 Application 冇情情唔會郁o左佢啦 (依家郁人走就差唔多 )。再起新 System 時 AS/400 會被考慮o既機會就似乎細 D。最多都係慢慢自然流失掛。

科研用途上可能對 Linux 抗拒性冇咁大, 甚至會特登揀 Linux, 未必係錢o既問題, 而係 Linux 有 D 位真係可以俾佢地自己 Optimize 到佢地個 Work Load 去個 Cluster o既 Maximum Performance, 話之你係咪要用 Experimental Patch 。但 AS/400 System 絕大部份都係 Commercial 用途, 佢地揀 System 唔係揀最高 Performance, 夠用就得。反而做決定o既人一來比較保守二來冇必要俾機會自己揹鑊佢地對 Linux 相對地會有介心, Departmental 或者細 Project 仲可能有機會揀 Linux, 大 Project 都係揀返大牌子 Commercial UNIX 啦 。大家著眼點唔同, 梗係揀唔同o野買。

銀行有錢....  想重寫應不是問題.....

Commercial o野有時唔係淨係換機重寫就算o個o下弊呢, 轉 System 有 Risk 架嘛, 再加埋依家咁o既時勢, 銀行第一個 Hold Project Cut 人啦

等自然phase out。
要migrate，都要有原因。有錢唔代表就要洗，大公司雖然好多黑幕，但要大公司洗一筆dirty sexy money始終都要背後有藉口支撐。migrate既risk會唔會細過去新system既risk呢？所需時間又係唔係短過去新system既時間呢？

IBM so far 都仲享到o丫, 舊機要搵 Parts 我相信唔係大問題。更何況到今時今日 IBM 有全新o既 POWER6 iSeries (AS/400) 機俾你選購, 唔駛驚你 D 舊 Application 冇 Hardware run

I know some banks are doing the migration from AS/400 to Linux. It is also a good time to migrate it as not much business now and they have resource to do the development and testing.

They are just forcing you to buy the "upgraded" version, nevertheless they don't mind the customer being tied to their AS/400 platform

Hardware wise the AS/400 platform is not going to EOL any time soon
