Currently seeking some new card readers and have once been tempted into getting RDF-9
So I sent Transcend some queries and here are the responses
1. Is it compatible with CF-II cards (including Microdrive)?
- NO!
2. When the RDF-9 is pre-connected to the PC (ie. before power on), will device be recognised during startup (even at bios level)?
- NO!
3. How many drive letters are assigned to the RDF-9? Do SD and mSD slots share one common drive letter?
- sd&msd are different drive letters.
So no CFII support, same detection problem as RDF-8......
Should I go for this one instead? Anyone experienced this one?

ic. tks for the update.
I'm using UNITEK Y-9313 (just standard USB 3.0). And it can be recognized at bios level. I've used it to boot up Linux (stored in SD card). While it works fine with my CF cards (mainly Sandisk and Transcend), I've no idea if it supports microdrive.

Unitek has some great makes, but with such permanent cable setup on their card readers I really can't accept such design
If however they make one with a detachable cable design then I might consider it

i...c you dislike permanent cable setup. For $9x, with aluminium case and this and that, I've no complaints

It's good for mobile computing setup where you have the reader proximal to the laptop
With traditional desktop design? No

How about Kingston Digital USB 3.0 Hi-Speed Media Reader (FCR-HS4)?
Support CF II, not a permanent cable

Premium-looking card reader but without xD card support like with the Buffalo
Also how do you know if this device can be detected (or even bootable with cards inserted) upon computer start-up
