自從買了MTV9000之後，久不久個裸族USB2.0會出現Disk Error，所以決定買個新款。
宜家裸族全部轉用USB3.0，想買CROSEU3S6G夾唔夾Magic TV？
今日收到貸，CROSEU3S6G係「金屬」外殼
駁MTV9000後一切正常

my 3800D will format ext hdd to EXT2 ... which is a kind of pretty old and slow file system. Yes, NTFS is the best option.

有沒有甚麼型號或規格建議呢？例如5400rpm定係7200rpm較好？另外我見較新款的Magic TV產品，都只係得一個USB接口，但舊款的有兩個，假如只得一個接口但用家又想同時接多個外置HDD，有甚麼建議的硬件可以使用呢？謝謝！

You'd want to stick to video-grade (surveillance grade or similar) or even enterprise-grade HDDs
As for which type of HDDs are being used inside the MTV, there's no definite answer according to the PM tech... says it depends on HDD availability
Sometimes even the 1TB MTV model would have a 3.5" type installed instead of the usual 2.5" type

Pretty much that's the reason, PC compatibility (requires external ext driver on both Win and Mac) and file management
In fact PM could even have included exFAT compatibility but they strongly refuse to do that...

謝謝閣下回覆，但未能解答我所問的問題！根據wklie的建議，是採用外接盒而不是docking再加HDD。而我本身用的docking加HDD用了多年後，最近也間中出現detect唔到HDD的問題，而同時外接的2.5"硬碟外碟盒，暫時相對reliable得多(由於外接docking使用又多年，但這2.5"的外置硬碟盒只是近期新加的)，是否真係外接盒較佳，暫時我仍然無法下結論，而外接盒內置的HDD，根本無法準確知道裡面的是甚麼HDD，唯一可以揀的，只係容量和轉速的問題。
同時，新款機頂盒只得一個USB接口，假如想同時多接一個外置HDD，應採用甚麼硬件配合較佳？這點尚未有回覆，希望wklie可以俾到建議。

新款Magic TV只有一個USB 2.0 Port，我試過插一個USB Hub成功駁2個External HDD及錄影，亦可以選擇優先次序。
不過就唔可以Copy or Move File到不同HDD。

原廠外置HDD，以往Seagate仍是用PMR技術，還未轉SMR時我是用3.5" 的4TB Backup Plus 系列，5900rpm的，用左2~3年都好正常，識得Sleep
自從Seagate外置HDD轉左SMR後，我就全面轉用WD My Book 8TB／10TB，HE氦氣碟，5400rpm，又用左差不多3年，同樣好穩定，一樣識得Sleep，現時我係在一部機上同時駁著兩隻WD My Book 8TB黎用

Both 5x00rpm and 7200rpm USB HDD should work, as long as they are original from the HDD manufacturer.
To use more than one USB HDD drive with one USB port, please use a USB hub that _has its own power supply_.

我終於找到兇手：USB3.0 90度角轉彎插
一直用咗呢個轉彎插頭插Magic TV背後，然後先至駁USB Cable。
之前亦試過插USB Hub+轉彎插，久不久出現Disk Error。所以建議各位Magic TV用家，避免加轉插或Hub，直接駁係最好。

By default the MTV's internal HDD is always in ext2/3
Not sure if you can format the external HDD thru the MTV in NTFS but IMO it's safer to do so under PC environment
Simply put, NTFS partition is much easier to manage, and also quite stable
ext2/3 partitions are hard to manage as there's no native driver available for Win/Mac (third party drivers are not easy to use either)
Consider ourselves (as end users) lucky since MTV runs on Linux system but PM has incorporated embedded NTFS drivers in later models (except for very early models eg. MTV5000)

係呀！待機模式選擇了“省電”。
起初新機時選擇了“快速”，經常預較錄影時發生Disk Error，改“省電”後已改善。
咁...應該選擇咩待機模型最好？

今日又無故disconnect，我改用Seagate HDD後問題已解決。
多謝師兄提醒，我估真係WD Blue的Spinup Time導致與Magic TV disconnect。

My concern is why the OP keeps using el-cheapo non-video compliant HDDs...
It seems to be the HDD's idling behaviour that causes the problem

仲要控制唔到用乜嘢chip同firmware
一樣有可能idle spin down，亦唔見得會用surveillance HDD
明白wklie師兄可能真係見到好多Dock+HDD出問題
只係唔同意 任何一部Dock+HDD 一定差過 任何一部original external USB HDD
樓主不如試吓換條短啲嘅USB cable睇下有冇幫助
另外用幾千蚊買過部MTV前唔係應該買部original external USB HDD試吓先咩？

多謝各位的意見。
經過多次反覆交叉測試，以及連接電腦測試，證實所有hardware正常。最終得出結果：“連接”、“拔除”問題係由firmware引致，只要restore firmware版本12.2x，HDD Docking正常連結及錄影。
另外，Magic TV沒有提供MTV9000/9500 firmware Download，只可以透過OTA升級，冇辦法降級，希望能夠再次提供。

External Docking多數有電源開關掣
但係原裝HDD多數冇, 靠Host send command去spin up / spin down
wklie意思應該係唔想你人手去熄hdd docking既power
因為有時表面冇野load, 其實可能cache左野未write入碟, 你一熄docking就好易炒野
